Misses can still become hits, but Friendly Fire is also possible. Expect the aliens to do so as well, especially on turn 1.Īnything can provide some cover (potentially block a shot), including a lamp post or a mailbox. Leave enough unused Time Units per soldier if you want them to take Reaction Shots (similar to Overwatch but based on Unit's Reaction skill). Make sure you have enough clips for all of your weapons on board the Skyranger.
I'd have to recommend X-COM over Xenonauts, even though they are both good games. I just don't really see a reason to play Xenonauts, even though I'm sure it's a good game, especially at this point, might as well just save your money for XCOM2 in November. UFOD, TFtD, and apocalypse are all still really good, as is the Firaxis one especially with Long War. Honestly if I get the itch to play XCom I'll just play one of the older ones. If you don't like the graphics, you're just paying for a bit of convenience.
The mechanics seem so similar to the old ones that its only real value come from its updated graphics/UI/Convenience of use. I don't think I've played it for more than a few hours a couple times. I even backed the project 5 times through the developer when it was in alpha, before it was even introduced to kickstarter. It makes me uncomfortable looking at it, and not the good xcom kind of uncomfortable, more like it's somehow violating whatever part of my brain interprets these things in a really dirty way. it just really bugs me in a weird almost subliminal way. I don't know if the art style is similar to something I hated when I was younger or what. It seems like a shallow thing, but it really kills the personality of the game. The art style for Xenonauts just totally kills it for me.
